Rainwater Basin Viewing Areas

The birds arrive in February after the wetlands begin to thaw.

The best viewing opportunities in the western basins can be found at Funk Waterfowl Production Area, Prairie Dog, Gleason, Clark and Sacramento-Wilcox Wildlife Management Areas.

In the eastern basins, Harvard and Massie Waterfowl Production Areas and Kissinger and Pintail Wildlife Management areas provide the most reliable viewing opportunities.

All viewing in the Rainwater Basins is free.

You can view most birds from your vehicle. Since water conditions vary from year to year, you will want to check on prime viewing by contacting the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary.
